Of course your resort will want to keep you entertained on site, but you being the adventurer that you are, want to get off the beaten path, and explore that locale in your own way. There are places all over this wonderful world that are not hard to crack for the best pulse-racing visits. Perhaps you like to dive in the ocean, or dive from a plane at 12,000 feet… Whatever gets your heart pounding, here are 5 things to do to extend the enjoyment of your getaway to adventure.
Dubai – The desert seems like a vast landscape of nothing, save sand to many, but Dubai is absolutely the opposite of that. It is an oasis of activity and adventure. The Middle East’s tourism rates have exploded from luxury shopping and hair raising adventure like dune riding, sand surfing, fishing the Persian Gulf and even mountain hikes. For a thrill, try skydiving over the manmade Palm Islands, or try Al Qudra Cycling Trail for 50 miles of cycling glory with exceptional desert backdrops.
Hawaii – If you are seeking fun in Hawaii, you will enjoy the beauty and adventure here. Hike along rainforest trails, dip into waterfalls, and get your surf on. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park lets you schmooze with volcanoes, live lava flows, and amazing terrain features. For the swimmer in you, dive, scuba, and swim Hanauma Bay with sea turtles, and parrot fish. Soaking in the sun along the beautiful beach here is also totally acceptable.
South Africa – There may be few things that are more exciting than an African safari, and this brings many people to South Africa, but there is so much more. You can definitely do skydiving, and bungee almost anywhere but how about the thrill of white water rafting the Doring River in South Africa’s Western Cape? Ever hear of underwater safari? You can participate by heading south of Cape Town to Gansbaai to go Great White Shark Cage diving. Be still my heart!
Belize – Central America is hot for tourism and Belize is an amazing stop for any adventure you seek. Rappel into the 300-foot deep “Black Hole” sinkhole, night snorkel by helmet light, or body sled down slick rock slides. The 407-foot deep Great Blue Sinkhole is amazing to see by boat and plane, and if you like spelunking, the historical ATM Cave is miles deep. It features crystals, swimming, hiking and 1000 year old Mayan sacrifice area with a preserved skeleton.
Portugal – This country lies to the east of Spain and Portugal specific trip itineraries are now en vogue. When the adventurous come to tour Portugal, they enjoy skydiving, skiing the Serra da Estre Mountain, zip lining from Spain straight into Portugal, and skydiving near the coast. If you are a surfer, the waves at Algarve, Nazare and Peniche are tremendous, and make for hours of surfing fun. For the nature lovers, there are hikes up to Pico do Arieiro Mountain to overlook the clouds.
