Montage Hotels are luxurious resorts situated in California, Utah, Hawaii, South Carolina, and Mexico. Montage, means “artistic assemblage,” and elements like stylish architecture, refined cuisine, elegantly appointed decor, fitness options, passionate staff, well stocked bar, and comfortable rooms are assembled for one of the best stays anywhere. I am a South Carolina native, but had my first experience of staying at the Montage Hotels earlier this month and I am so impressed that I am going to be looking for their resorts wherever I travel.
I enjoyed the Montage Palmetto Bluff, located in Bluffton, South Carolina, in close proximity to Hilton Head, and the Atlantic Ocean. I took full advantage of the adult only swimming pools with drink bar, and bicycling. Nearby you can go kayaking, fishing, golfing, take boat cruises and enjoy the best of low country cooking. The resort is set on a 20,000 acre lot that sports a nature preserve, walking trails, a village area, marina, restaurants and a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
Also at the Montage Palmetto Bluff, patrons can choose to stay in sprawling cottages, guest rooms, suites, or a village home; each decorated to reflect South Carolina’s coastal heritage. I personally stayed in the King Inn Room. The decor there made me feel home again in the Carolina setting. The bathrooms were marble with stand up glass shower, and large soaking tub. The tall king bed in my rooms was so amazing that I sank into it immediately after settling in and did not stir until the AM. The in room bar was a relief after my long flight as well.
For breakfast I had room service; toast, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, and coffee from the in-room gourmet coffee maker. The restaurants at the Montage are to be experienced though. Buffalo’s restaurant sits beside the May River and is the best of casual Southern cooking sourced with local ingredients. To relax with friends, I visited the Octagon bar for a couple whiskeys and bar snacks like bread and butter pickles, spicy peanuts, and pork rinds for goodness sake. That made my night along with the witty conversation from the bartenders.
There are nine total options for dining at Montage Palmetto Bluff so if you visit with many or a few, everyone can find something to suit their fancy. If there is any tension, ease your stress at the Spa Montage where you have a choice of facial treatments, massage, couples massage, mineral baths, and body wraps. Overall, if you need a taste of Southern hospitality and comfort at a top tier resort, then look for the Montage Palmetto Bluff when you’re in North Georgia or coastal South Carolina. You will visit again.
