An Unspoiled Queen | Saba Island, Dutch West Indies

If you are looking for a stunning, secluded paradise, we have found it for you!  Saba is a tiny Caribbean island founded as a municipality of the Netherlands in the 17th century. The peaceful and friendly island is near St. Maarten in the Lesser Antilles and at around 5 square miles, the whole island sits atop a dormant volcano. Home to the Saba Marine Park, scuba divers, and snorkelers can see large coral formations, turtles, dolphins, and sharks. The hiking is the best here due to the high elevation which also makes the views breathtaking!

Shopping in Saba is a unique experience alone! You can buy local Caribbean art at The Peanut Gallery, The Little Green Shop Saba or El Momo, or get your diving gear and cool sports wear at Sea Saba Dive Center. It is also or visit the Harry L. Johnson Museum, which is a 160-year old sea captain’s cottage. It has lots of artifacts and photos that give visitors a true sense of Saba Island heritage. For the crafty person along for the visit, tour Jo Bean Glass for lessons and the opportunity to see hot glass art, jewelry, and beads being made.

There are several great places to stay on Saba, one of which is the Queen’s Garden Resort.  It is a truly unique hideaway with antique furnishings and artwork, and exotic furniture from the West Indies.  It boasts the largest swimming pool on the island, a fine breakfast lunch & dinner restaurant, panoramic views of the turquoise blue Caribbean, and nearby mountains.  The resort is at a 1200-foot elevation which means cool breezes, and no mosquitoes. Luxury and natural attractions make the Island of Saba perfect for a serene and intimate getaway!
